NUMONYX ANNOUNCES 5-VOLT NOR FLASH MEMORY
FOR AUTOMOTIVE AND EMBEDDED APPLICATIONS
GENEVA, April 1, 2009 –Numonyx B.V. today announced it is extending its line of leading NOR flash memory to include the Numonyx™ Axcell™ M29F flash memory products, 5-volt devices ideally suited for both automotive and embedded customers. At densities of 16 megabit (Mb), 8Mb, 4Mb and 2Mb, these devices will bring fast memory execution as well as flexible and stable NOR flash memory supply for automotive, military, factory automation and avionics applications.
Automotive and embedded applications require high quality as well as high reliability and stability of supply – sometimes for up to five years or more. Yet, as most memory suppliers press toward newer and newer technology, production of these critical products is often discontinued, potentially leaving embedded and automotive segments that include thousands of products without critical memory supply, or a path to drop-in compatible replacement products. The 5-volt, 110nm Numonyx Axcell M29F is a robust design solution that uses a long-standing, stable process technology and meets the highest quality standards of the market.
“Customer demand for 5-volt memory solutions remains a significant business in automotive, industrial and telecom segments,” says Glen Hawk, Numonyx vice president and general manager of the Embedded Business Group. “The availability of the Numonyx Axcell M29F strongly confirms our focus on key embedded segments and commitment to long-term customer support.”
"Infineon has established its C166 Microcontroller architecture very well in the automotive and industrial market with over 500 million pieces sold - either with embedded flash like in its new XE166 family or with external NOR Flash working with its C166 family,” said Jürgen Hoika, senior marketing manager for microcontrollers at Infineon. “With the introduction of 5V NOR flash memory solutions, Numonyx brings continuity of supply for all 5V-powered automotive and industrial application platforms using Infineon's C166 family. There are tens of millions existing systems which benefit by this new source of 5V NOR flash components. We are happy to cooperate with Numonyx to support our customers."
The Numonyx Axcell M29F will be available with automotive-grade solutions qualified with AEC-Q100 specification to operate at extreme temperatures of -40C to 85C and -40C to 125C for both automotive and industrial market segments. It will be offered in TSOP48 and SO44 packages, with leaded and lead free options, and as known-good-die (KGD) solutions.
Initial samples for customer evaluation will be available in June, with full product qualification and production in September.
